Eight (8) political party leaders from Indonesia will be visiting Detroit, participating in the International Visitor Leadership sponsored program Strengthening Democracy Through Political Party Engagement and Grassroots Activism. This is a 3 day exchange program designed to offer a view of American democracy by allowing U.S. experts to share examples of grassroots political activism and introduce participants to transparency and reporting rules for fundraising for U.S. elections. The objective of this program is to learn about U.S. political party organizations and structures at the state, local, and federal levels. They also will be working to develop partnerships and cooperative relationships between Indonesian political parties and U.S. counterparts, as well as with democratic governance-focused NGOs and USG officials.
