As part of the Europe-Eurasia Professional Fellows Program sponsored by the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by American Councils, two (2) professional fellows, one from Belarus and one from Ukraine, will be staying in Detroit for the month of October. This program allows participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine to gain practical experience in, and exposure to, US government, entrepreneurship, higher education, and other topics. While staying with homestay families, the fellows will work with the Department of History and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan - Dearborn, and the Wayne State University Center for Peace and Conflict Studies.
PFP participants are placed in intensive month-long fellowships in non-profit organizations, private sector businesses, and government offices across the United States. American participants who have hosted PFP fellows later travel overseas as part of the exchange programs.
