This September Global Ties Detroit will be hosting six (6) delegates from Kyrgyz Republic participating in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) World Learning program Human and Civil Rights for Marginalized Communities. This program is designed to explore the strategies of human and civil rights practitioners who advocate for the rights of marginalized communities, focusing on how they present their concerns to government and social influencers. During their stay participants will explore creative approaches to celebrating diversity, promoting inclusive public attitudes, addressing sensitive issues by working across institutional lines, and expanding valuable collaborative networks. They also will be participating in workshops focused on grassroots organizational strategies, advocacy, coalition-building, public outreach, and fundraising for human rights initiatives attending meetings at diverse human rights organizations that focus on vulnerable populations and utilize social media in their advocacy efforts, as well as attending meetings with representatives of minority communities impacted by the civil rights movement in the U.S.
