Fighting Racism and Discrimination through Theatre

    Belgium

Ten (10) Belgian visitors from the Ras El Hanout Theatre Initiative, including the founder of the program, actors, and stage and project managers, will visit Detroit to participate in think tanks to discuss the reallocation of police funding, strengthening law enforcement-civilian relationships, and how U.S. Islamic scholars look at Islam and being Muslim in the West.

The Ras El Hanout NGO that runs the theatre initiative, is located in the heart of the Molenbeek suburb of Brussels, and has been quite active in this space for over ten years. The Ras El Hanout Theatre Initiative focuses on theater as a catalyst for positive societal change; and how it can prevent and combat racism and discrimination while empowering at-risk communities. The organization wishes to leverage its experience to further professionalize its approach, not only in collaboration with Belgian academic institutions but by adopting best practices found abroad in this area.
