Sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan, Global Ties Detroit is working with Oakland University in to provide an educational opportunity for secondary teachers in Pakistan to develop skills in identifying and providing support services to students who may have a learning disability or a condition that can impede learning. Global Ties Detroit is working with Oakland University to facilitate cultural activities, dinner hospitality and excursions to fully immerse the teachers into Detroit’s history and community. During the first five weeks of each visit to the United States, participants will be immersed in learning about learning differences and disabilities on the campus of Oakland University and at local schools.  This program reinforces the themes of education for students with disabilities, access and equity in education for all, as well as U.S. public diplomacy goals.
