Senior Communications Director of Visit Detroit and Global Ties Detroit Board Member, Chris Moyer participated in the Young Transatlantic Innovation Leaders Initiative YTILI Reciprocal Exchange program to Croatia and Slovenia after hosting Spring 2023 YTILI fellow, Filipa Marusic at Visit Detroit. During Chris’s exchange stay he had the opportunity to “see firsthand how multiple different communities and organizations approach community and economic development.” This program is a dual exchange program where Chris was able to host and work with a YTILI fellow here in Detroit and in exchange visited Croatia and Slovenia where he learned about different cultures and different project funding models.
“Being a part of the YTILI program was a fantastic experience for me and my organization. Not only did I get to work with a talented, inquisitive, and hard-working fellow when she came to Detroit, I also participated in a profoundly informative reciprocal exchange.”
Chris expressed his gratitude for this opportunity to represent Detroit and advocate for his commitment to citizen diplomacy.
Spring 2023 YTILI fellow and entrepreneur, Veera Ylikotila, from Finland decided to relocate to Detroit after her month-long fellowship program to grow and develop her business XeraLiving.
“YTILI and Detroit both had a huge impact for me to figure out what I'm really passionate about," says Veera.
During her experience in the YTILI program she quickly realized that she wants to connect different cultures and embrace connections, believing that Detroit is the perfect spot to do this.
When Veera spoke about her perspective of Detroit she strongly identifies with this quote.
"Detroit is big enough to matter in the world, but small enough for you to matter in it."
Global Ties Detroit is proud to sponsor the YTILI fellowship program where fellows are hosted by local companies for 4 weeks to learn, work, and be mentored by their fellowship hosts. Spring of 2024 Global Ties Detroit will be hosting YTILI fellows from Germany, Ireland, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, and Spain from May 1st- June 4th, 2024.
