Global Ties Detroit, in partnership with the University of Michigan and the Arab American Women’s Business Council (AAWBC), is pleased to welcome a group of forty (40) technology students along with five (5) of their professors from Palestine Polytechnic University to explore metro Detroit’s extensive entrepreneurial ecosystem and forge partnerships with institutions and academics.

As a continuation of its efforts in the field of entrepreneurial education, PPU was awarded a grant by the American Consulate in Jerusalem to develop entrepreneurial educational and professional development tools for students. Through the project, PPU is sending forty students and five faculty members to Ann Arbor and Detroit to participate in short courses and internships/job shadow with civic engagement and service learning opportunities. Faculty members will participate in a “train the trainer” course and will explore joint research opportunities. All visitors will also experience a rich cultural program involving museums, NGO and start-up visits, sporting events, concerts, local festivals and home hospitality. Interested in hosting students for this unique experience? A good job shadow may consist of meetings with department heads to discuss best practices for R&D, marketing, company culture, etc. It might include a team lunch roundtable where the PPU students and your team exchange ideas. Tours of your organization are always important.

Spending time with you to learn about the daily work of an entrepreneur and/or business professional will be most valuable for these students who are eager for professional development and for exposure to the working world and entrepreneurial ecosystem. The two most important facets of a successful job shadow experience are being open to ideas and creatively scheduling the three days they are in your office.
